Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Our eyes are the most defining feature on our face. We use them to express how we are feeling emotionally and physically. Sometimes we may appear tired or sad to others when we actually are not. Maybe you instead notice that you are having trouble seeing, especially at the end of the day. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is preformed on men and women of all ages. The procedure can be done for strictly cosmetic reasons or to correct vision problems associated with aging and heredity.

Removing extra skin and/or fat pads located below or above the eyes can make a dramatic difference in your overall appearance. The procedure is relatively simple and can be done in our clinic’s fully accredited operating room utilizing a local numbing medication and slight sedation or at a same day surgery center. The surgeon will advise you on the best option for you. You will have an incision along the crease of your upper eyelid and/or your lower lash line. The stitches will stay in place for one week. . Anytime an incision is made there will be a scar. The scar from a blepharoplasty heals quite quickly and can be covered with makeup a couple days after the sutures are removed. Bruising and swelling can take up to 6 weeks to completely resolve.

If Blepharoplasty sounds like it may be an option for you, call our office for a consultation with one of our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons. They will advise you if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery or if there are other options available for you. Photos will be taken and you will be given a quote on the cost of the procedure. If you are having any vision loss due to excess skin on the upper eyelid, our office can assist you in making an appointment with an optometrist for a visual field exam. Insurance may cover all or a portion of the cost depending on the results of the visual exam.
