There are several products on the market that have been approved by the FDA for treatment of wrinkles that are associated with aging. There are many options available and many companies claiming to have the best product available for you.. Our surgeons will be happy to discuss the various products available in order to make an informed decision as to what is right for you.
Most cosmetic fillers are a temporary solution to wrinkles. Some of the fillers are permanent for smoothing out wrinkles. Fillers can also be used in depressed scars and add fullness to lips. Some of the products will last longer then others and there is a difference in cost between the fillers. After the initial consultation with one of our plastic surgeons, you and the surgeon can choose which filler would be good for you. You may elect to have the injection at the time of your initial consultation or you may schedule at a later date. There can be some initial swelling and bruising from the injection. This is normally very minimal.
Collagen is one of the oldest and widely used and least expensive of the cosmetic fillers. It is made of a purified bovine dermal collagen. It can last for up to six months making it the least temporary of the fillers. Some patients have been allergic to collagen, therefore it is required to have a test dose of collagen injected into the forearm. If there is no reaction within four weeks, treatment can begin.
This filler is made of a human dermal tissue. There are not any known allergic reactions so no test doses are required. There seems to be long lasting effects from this filler. It varies from client to client.
This filler is also made of an acellular human collagen. The effects tend to last up to one year. This product does not require a test dose.
This product is made up of a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. This product is a crystal clear gel that is used in various places on the face such as filling lines and plumping lips. There is no need for test doses before treatment. Restylane can last six months to a year.
Radiesse is the most expensive of the cosmetic fillers, but it tends to last the longest. The average client will benefit from the injection up to fifteen months.. Radiesse is made of a calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a synthetic compound. There is no need for a test dose as it contains no animal substances.
Permanent fillers are now available but we do not suggest these until the patient uses a temporary filler and likes the results and their new revitalized look.
The injections are considered to be a cosmetic procedure. The fee will vary for each type of injection, depending upon the product used and the amount injected. This will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
