Gynecomastia is a medical term meaning the development of male breasts. There is no known reason why 60 % of some men develop gynecomastia. It is a condition that can develop on both breasts or affect only one. Men spend time and energy modifying diet and exercising with little or no improvement to the contour of the chest. Each client is evaluated on an individual basis by a plastic surgeon. The surgeon will discuss what surgical options are best are best for your gynecomastia. Surgical procedures that may be recommended are: liposuction, surgical excision, or surgical mastectomy. Only the plastic surgeon will know which option is best for you.. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, meaning you will go home the same day. There may be a small drain in place that you will go home with and a compression vest in place after your surgery. You will want to refrain from any heavy lifting, pushing and pulling for a few weeks.
Gynecomastia surgery is usually a cosmetic procedure. There are only a few insurance companies that provide coverage for this procedure. Our office can assist you in finding out if your insurance will help with the cost.
